A recent initiative by the managers of the Onelio Amprimo refuge, in the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park, expands this concept because it provides concrete support not only to those who visit the mountains for leisure but also for scientific study purposes.

All over the world, the pillars on which natural parks are based are the need to protect ecological balances and the need to open up to visitors to allow the public to enjoy the wonders of the environment and to learn about its values. However, these two principles can often be even antithetical; we can talk about real conflicts if appropriate management strategies are not adopted to harmonize conservation efforts with the necessity of opening up to visitation and tourism.
