Arbeboost
On Saturday, March 14 at 5 PM in Susa, at the Castle of Countess Adelaide, Arbeboost Alchemical Resonances of Narrated Magic.
Arbeboost is a very recent musical project created by three Piedmontese musician-ethnomusicologists who have been active on the Italian and European scene for many years, involved in various ways in the research and dissemination of music and popular culture, organizers, leaders of cultural associations, and promoters of events and projects that combine the cultural and artistic dimension with that of environmental and social sustainability.
Arbeboost is a play on words between “boost” (to enhance in English) and “arbebo,” one of the names used in the language of the Occitan valleys of Italy to define the kalimba: a small musical instrument found in the musical cultures of numerous world ethnicities and among the oldest, yet still the least known, of the Occitan musical traditions, with players of the oral tradition still active until the second half of the 20th century.
Alchemical Resonances of Narrated Magic is a show that combines various forms of storytelling: verbal, musical, sung. Fairy tales and popular legends, myths of monstrous creatures and historical processes related to witches, songs and nursery rhymes, sound dialogues between a hypnotic kalimba (arbebo, ribeba, ...), an obsessive accordion, an anarchic bass clarinet alternating with an unconventional bagpipe.
Instrumental suites, rhythmic and melodic interweaving, oral tradition music, improvisational, trance. A personal and creative repertoire that also highlights the richness of linguistic minorities, of worlds and cultural dimensions that are less known, emphasizing their importance and modernity.
