I am going to France then.

On Friday, April 4 at 9 PM in Sestriere, Cinema Sestriere in Piazza Fraiteve 5, theatrical performance I am going then to France.

The theatrical show “I am going then to France” by the ArTeMuDa APS Association tells and intertwines different stories of emigrants from the Piedmontese Alpine Valleys that take place over a time span from 1855 to the 1930s. The destinations are France, especially for seasonal emigration, reaching the United States and Argentina. Men and women decide to leave the Susa Valley, the Varaita Valley, the Lanzo Valleys, the Chisone Valley, leaving their beloved, cruel but beloved world to secure their survival, a chance at life. At the center of the scene looms the Mountain, a woman who speaks a mixed language of Italian, Piedmontese, French, Occitan, and Franco-Provençal, from which the various characters detach to reach their final destinations and their new lives. In the show, the events intertwine with some tragic historical events that involved emigrating men and women: the disaster on February 16, 1883 at the Diamond Mine in Coal City, Illinois, the massacre of Aigues-Mortes in southern France on August 16-17, 1893, and the sinking of the steamship Mafalda, which occurred on October 25, 1927.
