House of the Escartons "Alex Berton"

The skilful use of stone and wood, finely worked and combined with each other, highlights the knowledge and technical skills of the master builders of the past.
The spaces were organized according to a simple and practical scheme, typical of traditional houses: the stable, the kitchen and the cellar on the lower floor, the rooms on the central floor with the barn above the stable, the cereal storage rooms in the attic. In winter the main space became the stable where, thanks to the animal warmth, the family could gather, carry out daily tasks and pass down knowledge from generation to generation.

Purchased by the Park, the building lives a second youth.
To date, the Casa degli Escartons hosts:

• the Wardrobe: the precious piece of furniture with fine finishes handmade by the Pragelatase sculptor Guido Ronchail who, with his seven keys, wants to symbolically represent the agreement between the six communities of the valley;
• the historical archive “Cav. Remigio Bermond”: the place is dedicated to the Knight Remigio Bermond, a well-known poet of the Chisone valley. Thanks to the sensitivity of the family who donated it, it is possible to consult the personal archive of the Pragelati scholar preserved in the same room. A biography and a panel illustrate his life and works;
• the exhibition hall: hosts temporary exhibitions and thematic meetings. A video station projects films regarding the reality of the Escartons;
• the library and reading room: the scientific and historical library of the Val Troncea Natural Park is made up of 3,000 volumes. By appointment it is possible to consult and borrow the books on the shelves.
