GEAT Val Gravio refuge

The G.E.A.T. refuge Val Gravio is a typical and ancient mountain hut, built in 1928 and expanded over the years by the solidarity work of the G.E.A.T. members, located in the "pulmonary center" of the Orsiera Rocciavrè Natural Park, more precisely in the Gravio valley which, due to its orography (North -South), protects it from cold winds.

The refuge is characterized by a low environmental impact: most of the energy comes from renewable sources, mini hydroelectric power station, poutagè and wood stove. From all accesses you can reach it on foot via splendid mule tracks that cross the woods.

Archaeological evidence denotes the presence of man since the Iron Age. The waterfall hidden five minutes from the refuge, with a succession of pools of water in the stream, are the habitat for numerous fish species and allow for stimulating and invigorating moments of relaxation. The colors of the forest vary the shades of the vault of our natural gallery, immersing us in spring, in the acid green of the nascent leaves followed by the yellow of the papillonaceae of the Laburnum, in summer the bright green of the leaves of the beech trees and conifers dominates. In autumn the dominant color is the red of the wild cherry trees and the orange of the larch. Winter finally strips the forest, leaving wide panoramic glimpses of the blue sky streaked by the trunks of the trees and with ice and snow covering the water of the Gravio, bringing a profound silence. Internally covered in wood, the refuge will always welcome you in a warm and simple atmosphere.

The refuge is a stopping point of the Giro dell'Orsiera.

GEAT Val Gravio has joined the Albergabici service of the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation (FIAB), which aims to point out accommodation facilities suitable for cycle excursionists and to promote sustainable mobility. The refuge has a covered shelter for bicycles and a small workshop for emergency repairs.
Discounts are available not only for CAI members, but also for FIAB members.

In our refuge you can organize lunches with your family or friends, even for large groups!
Our menu includes:

• piedmontese and traditional Alpine starters;
• platters of selected cured meats and cheeses from the valley;
• traditional tanning polenta, with sausage and/or mushrooms;
• homemade desserts and cakes;
• alternatives for vegetarians.

And again: local beers, wines, bitters and genepy.
