In the months of June and July 2026, monitoring of the stag beetle will begin in the Avigliana Lakes Natural Park. The staff from the Biodiversity and Surveillance areas of the Cozie Alps Parks have decided to start a scientific activity to control Lucanus cervus, which is listed by the European Union as a protected species under the Habitat Directive and is considered to be declining. The aim is to assess its health status in the most suitable area among those managed by the Park Authority.

Tra gli insetti più spettacolari dei boschi europei, il cervo volante è una presenza capace di sorprendere anche chi non ha particolare familiarità con il mondo degli invertebrati. I maschi, dotati di sproporzionate mandibole che ricordano i palchi del cervo, possono raggiungere dimensioni notevoli per un insetto, rendendo questa specie uno dei coleotteri più grandi d’Europa. Nonostante l’aspetto imponente, si tratta di un animale innocuo, strettamente legato ai boschi maturi e alla presenza di legno morto, elemento fondamentale per la biodiversità forestale.
