In the month of October, the Protected Areas of the Cozie Alps distributed wild boar meat as part of the projects Resto… mangia, Resto… mangia plus, and Food is not wasted, developed by the Environmental Policies Department of the Municipality of Avigliana against food waste and in support of needy families.
With the end of summer 2023, activities to reduce the wild boar population within the Parks of the Cottian Alps are intensifying. The species containment program initiated in the Piedmont region in 2022 following the outbreak of African Swine Fever is also applied to protected areas according to methods established by the management bodies through a specific numerical control plan. After a reduction in outings during the period of highest tourist attendance in August, new technical equipment has been purchased for operations through night selective hunting with infrared viewers and captures using traps both in the Chisone Valley and in the Susa Valley.
