Meetings for the Occitan language in the Upper Susa Valley

On Thursday, June 19 at 5:30 PM in Bardonecchia, at the civic museum in Borgo Vecchio, the twelfth and final appointment of a cycle of 12 meetings dedicated to the Occitan language in the Upper Susa Valley Tournâ a menâ la bartavèllë (return to engage in conversation, to speak our language).

Occitan speakers from the area are invited to gather testimonies useful for recovering the various local dialects, from Chiomonte to Sauze di Cesana, from Sestriere to Bardonecchia.

The initiative, organized by Chambra d'Oc on the occasion of the Chantar l'uvern festival, stems from the desire to recover the culture and local dialect of the Upper Susa Valley. Each evening, to which all Occitan speakers from the Upper Valley will be invited, will focus on a specific theme and excerpts from a local Occitan writer will be read (tradition, landscape, reading, proverbs, and sayings, etc.). Renato Sibille, a local specialist in Occitan literature and language, will give a historical introduction followed by readings to encourage stories from those present. Moments of exchange and discussion will not be lacking: actively participating in conversations will allow memories to be stimulated and will help to reacquire the language with small goals, such as learning some everyday phrases.

As part of the seleventh edition of "Chantar l'Uvèrn. From Epiphany to Easter, fragments of Occitan, Franco-Provençal and French language and culture": the cultural festival that enhances original creations and promotes the Occitan, Franco-Provençal and French language and culture through a rich and widespread territorial animation with musical, theatrical, anthropological, documentary, and environmental events.
