Tournâ a menâ la bartavèllë: 12 meetings for the OC language in the Upper Susa Valley

Thursday, April 3 at 5:30 PM in Chiomonte, at the Church of Santa Caterina, the first meeting of a series of 12 events dedicated to the Occitan language in the Upper Susa Valley Tournâ a menâ la bartavèllë (to return to chatting, to speak our language).

Occitan speakers from the area are invited to collect useful testimonies to recover the different local dialects, from Chiomonte to Sauze di Cesana, from Sestriere to Bardonecchia.

The initiative, organized by Chambra d'Oc as part of the Chantar l'uvern festival, arises from the desire to recover the culture and local speech of the Upper Susa Valley. Each evening, to which all Occitan speakers from the Upper Valley will be invited, will be focused on a specific theme and passages from a local Occitan writer will be read (tradition, landscape, reading, proverbs and sayings, etc.). Renato Sibille, a local specialist in Occitan literature and language, will provide a historical introduction followed by readings to stimulate the stories of the attendees. There will also be moments of exchange and dialogue: actively participating in conversations will help stimulate memories and assist in reacquiring the language through small achievements, such as learning some everyday phrases.

Dall’Epifania a Pasqua, frammenti di lingua e cultura occitana, francoprovenzale e francese": the cultural festival that values original creations and promotes the Occitan, Francoprovençal, and French language and culture through arich and extensive territorial animation with musical, theatrical, anthropological, documentary, and environmental events.
