On Saturday, July 11 at 10 AM, the inauguration of the road to Colle della Vecchia will take place after the completion of the restoration work carried out during the summer of 2025 on the important historical and environmental route of the Cottian Alps.
The work involved maintenance interventions, with particular attention to the reconstruction of the landslide-affected path near Colle della Vecchia, and was carried out thanks to a project presented by the management body of the protected areas of the Cottian Alps, which was approved for funding under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021/2027.
The road develops in a context of great landscape value between Val Chisone and Val di Susa, through the territories of the municipalities of Usseaux, Gravere, Chiomonte, and Exilles, connecting Colle delle Finestre and Colle dell'Assietta, expanding the network of paths for hiking and mountain biking. It is important to specify, in fact, that its traversal is prohibited for motor vehicles.
The intervention that allowed the reopening of the itinerary aligns with the goals outlined in the statutes of the Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps as it provides an additional opportunity for visiting the natural environments protected by the Park Authority and enhances an important historical heritage. The path was constructed as early as the 1700s by engineers of the military genius as a mule track, later made drivable in the late 1800s, and offers an ideal connection for soft mobility between the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park and the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Natural Park.
The inauguration will be an opportunity to illustrate the technical aspects of the intervention and the history of the military road. Elio Pulzoni and Luca Marello, respectively President and Director of the Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps, will be present, along with the officials from the Park Authority and the technicians from the companies that managed the intervention.
