On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Biodiversity and Natural Areas Sector of the Piedmont Region announced the approval for funding of two projects submitted by the management body of the protected areas of the Cozie Alps under the 2021/2027 ERDF Call. These are two significant “Hydrogeological stabilization interventions for situations of instability in mountainous, hilly, and riparian areas, aimed also at the resilience of the territories” as stated in the call text to which the Park Authority participated in collaboration with the municipalities of Avigliana and Bussoleno, obtaining eligibility for financing of 100% of the works.
With the aim of improving the accessibility of hiking routes around the Small Lake, in the Avigliana Lakes Natural Park, the project was developed in close collaboration with the Municipality of Avigliana to address some critical issues related to the inaccessibility of the bridge over the Rio Meana, the inability to ensure access for people with disabilities to the area adjacent to the La Zanzara bar, and the instability in crossing the streams and water flows on the southwestern slope of the basin.
In respect of the naturalness of the path, which will retain the characteristics of a trail integrated into the environmental context of the lakeshore, some short walkways will be constructed to surpass the crossings most subject to flooding and mud presence, specific interventions for water management as well as the reconstruction of the bridge and the construction of a new access ramp to the small beach located in front of the public establishment. The works, made of Corten steel to enhance durability and reduce maintenance, will be carried out with the utmost care to ensure the conservation of habitats and species of particular naturalistic value present in the context of the Small Lake.
The amount financed by the ERDF call amounts to € 438,800.00.
This is an important project to restore, for exclusive hiking use, the ancient municipal mule track that connects the Fontana della Gerpula to the Rifugio Amprimo passing through the hamlet of Cristetti in the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park. The recovery of the route, aside from its historical significance, aims to improve access to the refuge with a more navigable route compared to those starting from the Cortavetto and Cervetto hamlets, as the progressive abandonment has rendered it impracticable due to some hydrogeological instabilities and reforestation.
The works will include the reconstruction of the supporting walls upstream and downstream of the route, as well as the management of surface waters and the stabilization of some slopes prone to landslides. The implementation will employ traditional techniques such as the reconstruction of dry stone walls and advanced bioengineering to reduce the impact of the works on the ecological balances of the territory.
The amount financed by the ERDF call amounts to € 495,035.50.
“After the recently completed works in Val Chisone for the maintenance of the roads of Colle della Vecchia and Selleries – recounts Luca Marello, director of the Protected Areas of the Cozie Alps – the approval of these two additional projects reaffirms the commitment of the Park Authority, alongside the local institutions, to seek and manage resources with significant territorial impacts. A result that combines the needs of tourism enjoyment and support for the local economy with the conservation of the ecological balances of a territory that deserves to be both protected and enhanced.”
