Elementary school
In 1700, the level of education in the high valleys was much higher than that in the valley floor and plain areas. Teachers were paid by the Communities to educate young people during the winter. This is how Victor Hugo describes them in his novel Les Misérables: "These mountain teachers go to the fairs and I have seen them.
They are recognized by the quill pens in their hatbands. Those who teach only reading have one pen, those who teach reading and arithmetic have two, and those who teach reading, arithmetic, and Latin have three..."
In the small classroom set up at the Colombano Romean Ecomuseum, modern students will find old wooden desks, pens, nibs and inkwells, wooden folders and pen holders, vintage books and notebooks, the small stove fueled with wood brought from home by the children, and relive the atmosphere of schools of the past by engaging in "Beautiful Calligraphy" tests and manual crafts.
The space dedicated to games from the past will provide inspiration for an outing inside the Gran Bosco Park in search of natural materials (pine cones, wood, rocks, nuts, berries...) to build and have fun with games from grandparents...
In the small classroom of the old school set up at the Ecomuseum Colombano Romean, children will find old folders and pencil cases, pens and inkwells, and will be able to understand how different the school of the students of the past was.
We will read together an old notebook, written by a child their same age more than a hundred years ago, to discover the effort and enthusiasm with which they faced school.
At the Park's visitor center, a workshop will allow them to try writing with pen, nib, and ink and engage in "Beautiful Calligraphy" tests.
In the documentation center, the arrangement with the games of grandparents created with natural materials or recycled ones will make them reflect and get excited, providing the cue for the walk inside the Gran Bosco Park.
