On Monday, May 26, 2025, work began on the restoration of the road damages at Selleries, where the refuge and pasture are located, on the Val Chisone side of the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park. This project was initiated even before the significant damage recorded during the summer of 2024 and sees the Management Authority for the Protected Areas of the Cozie Alps as the beneficiary of a FESR funding of €385,500 for a project shared with the Municipalities of Fenestrelle and Roure.
The intervention includes, in summary, the reconstruction of the drainage channels along the entire stretch, the reshaping and maintenance of existing longitudinal channels on the ground, the reconstruction of the crossing of the two streams in the Bergerie Jouglard area, the restoration through piling of slope landslides, and the installation of several sections of barrier. Furthermore, the road surface will be completely milled and rolled, with specific interventions in the areas of greatest instability where two types of pavement will be made: in local stone (pavé) arranged “knife-edge” and a draining paving, eco-compatible and sustainable for roads, similar to ecological asphalt.
The planning of the works and the timeline also aimed to minimize disturbances to the economic and tourist activities of the area, compatible with the requirement imposed by the mountain environment to carry out these types of interventions during the beautiful season.
The company responsible for the construction site will coordinate with the holders of the pastures and the managers of the refuge the time slots during which they can circulate with motorized vehicles, but only for work-related needs. Regarding tourism traffic, the company commits to ensure vehicle accessibility on public holidays to reach the refuge and the areas above where hiking trails start.
As for pedestrian access, no specific restrictions are planned, although the presence of the construction site could disturb hikers and vice versa. It is therefore advisable to follow the following alternative routes.
