Certosa di Montebenedetto: maintenance work completed

An important renovation work has been completed at the Certosa di Montebenedetto, located in the municipality of Villar Focchiardo (TO), with extraordinary maintenance of the roof of the rural building adjacent to the church, within the monumental complex. The Carthusian abbey, founded in 1198, is managed by the Protected Areas of the Cozie Alps on behalf of the Piedmont Region, which has allocated €80,000 at the end of 2024 for extraordinary maintenance interventions and the preservation of heritage.

In particular, the most significant construction lot involved a building that required the replacement of the severely damaged roofing, through which water was infiltrating into the underlying rooms. Since this structure is protected by the Superintendency, whose requirements were followed, a conservative approach was taken, maintaining the original framework with few insertions of new beams and replacing the stone slates with new slabs, hand-shaped and installed by a local craftsman specialized in this type of work. Additionally, some minor interior renewal interventions were carried out, and the boiler at the Foresteria, located in the building opposite the church, was replaced.

The design and implementation of the intervention were carried out within timelines that allowed for the regular summer opening of the Certosa di Montebenedetto, a popular and appreciated tourist destination. After the allocation of the funding at the end of 2024, the design and construction management were commissioned in the first months of the year, authorization procedures were completed, and the contract was awarded; as soon as the road became passable again with the end of winter, work began and, thanks to the swift execution of the awarded company, was completed in just two weeks. The areas affected by the work are entrusted to the Giovale Manuel agricultural company, which also manages the Foresteria set up by the park authority, a support point for tourists and visitors within the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park. Right now, the schedule of cultural events taking place during the summer inside the church is being finalized to enliven this place rich in history and suggestions and attract an increasing number of enthusiasts to appreciate its beauty.
