Among ancient trees and majestic deer, in the Grand Forest, there exists a microcosm of plant and animal life to observe closely: lichens, moss, beneficial insects and harmful insects, the precious red wood ant, insects that feed on dead wood and help the forest grow, colorful butterflies and the magic of their metamorphosis...
The area behind the visitor center of the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Natural Park has been hosting the Garden of Insects and Butterflies since the summer of 2011. Insect hotels, a natural anthill, and a equipped path through which all the essential environments for the survival of butterflies succeed each other: a small wet area, flower beds, hedges, and flowering meadows, sources of nourishment and shelter for larvae and adults.
An effective and engaging environment that, during the activity period of the insects, allows to observe and learn about, conserve and respect these species, important environmental indicators, and the habitats in which they live.
The woods and meadows surrounding the visitor center then turn into an open-air laboratory to discover the magnificent world of forest and soil insects.
A day to learn about diurnal Lepidoptera and the insects living among our mountains, the different stages of their metamorphosis, and the main survival strategies they adopt.
A visit to the garden of insects and butterflies will help us get to know these small inhabitants of the woods and our gardens.
The workshop tailored to different age groups will lead to the creation of bug hotels and help us understand how to create a welcoming space for butterflies and other pollinating insects in the garden or on the balcony at home, in the condo yard, or at school. Using the microscope, we will discover a surprising micro-world.
The walk in the park will stimulate us to observe details and discover the importance of small things. We will discover the ecological role that insects play in the ecosystem.
