Ancient huts in Val Sangone - Guido Teppa
A didactic proposal to discover in the valleys of the Cozie Alps Parks the places where the dramatic pages of the History of the Resistance in the Second World War were written. Not only to not lose their memory, but also to stimulate the need and duty to know how to choose. Being Partisans means taking sides, to do so you must acquire the necessary tools to be able to choose by merging emotion with knowledge.
The excursion in Val Sangone in the Natural Park Orsiera Rocciavrè will take place in areas characterized by a typical mountain environment, and it will be the places themselves to suggest to us the ongoing need to know how to choose: paths, equipment, difficulty, awareness of one's physical and experiential limits.
Reach Forno di Coazze by bus to stop at the Monument to the Fallen and the Common Grave. A place where the only sounds are those of the wind through the trees and the rushing of the nearby stream that in our perception can be representative of a mountain as a place of peace, which is difficult to imagine disrupted by bursts of gunfire and cries of pain, witnessing a moment of great drama for the local community. After a short transfer, leave the bus to reach the Sertorio Building (1400 m.) on an easy path, the site of violent clashes between partisans and Nazi-Fascists, also narrated by the visible traces of bullets on the walls.
The Valleys converging at Giaveno - a town awarded the Silver Medal for Military Valor - have been the scene of countless acts of war and violent reprisals that we will try to recount by reading the diaries of partisans taken from works by both more "cultured" authors (Ada Gobetti, Massimo Mila) and simpler valley dwellers. All this while crossing a beautiful territory with spectacular views of hidden waterfalls, amidst ancient chestnut and beech forests, looking for traces of wildlife and the flight of eagles in the sky. Depending on the groups' abilities, it may be possible to return following a slightly more challenging loop trail.
You will come close to the borders of the Park, but you can admire the high-altitude landscapes that extend from Colle della Roussa to Punta del Rubinet, discovering the lesser-known Upper Val Sangone.
