Through an unusual excursion in the territory of the Avigliana Lakes Park, we will try to discover the stories told by the rocks. On one hand, there is man collecting smooth stones from the rivers to make roads, transforming clay into bricks, and recovering marbles from the past to build the walls of houses and castles. On the other hand, we will search for the signs left by glaciations and the flow of rivers: erratic boulders, smooth stones, the moraine hill, and the lakes.
In this narrative that unfolds between human and natural architectures, ancient legends hidden in every medieval village will help us, along with a more pragmatic geological reading of the landscape.
The excursion will also offer an opportunity to delve into the challenges faced by the Park Authority, so evident in this territory, in balancing tourist use and environmental protection.
We leave the Avigliana Railway Station to climb up to reach the alleys of the ancient medieval village, one of the best-preserved in Piedmont. We will discover the history hidden in the old walls where testimonies from different eras layer upon each other, united by the choice/necessity of reuse. Once we reach the plain of the ruined Castle overlooking the town, we will try to interpret the landscape opening up before our eyes from this privileged viewpoint. We are perched between the Susa Valley and the Sangone Valley, where we can admire the red rocks of Musinè, the austere silhouette of the Sacra di San Michele, the Lakes, and the imposing peak of Rocciamelone fading into the distance. Descending from the winding paths leading to the Lago Grande, we will finally discover the stories left by the successive glaciations: imposing erratic boulders, smoothed rock ridges from erosion, the shapes of moraine hills, and the lakes.
A surprising walk in nearly untouched nature just a stone's throw from the urban center and industrial hub, where the role of the Park Authority has once again been fundamental in curbing urban sprawl.
Thanks to a geological reading of the landscape, we will discover together stories spanning millions and thousands of years that have led to the formation of glaciers, hills, lakes, rocks, and stories of humans.
In this narrative that unfolds between human and natural architectures, ancient legends hidden in every medieval village will be helpful.
The excursion will also be an opportunity to offer an in-depth look at the difficulty for the Park Authority, so evident in this territory, to reconcile tourist enjoyment and environmental protection.

Descending from the winding paths leading to the Great Lake, we will finally discover the stories left by successive glaciations: imposing erratic boulders, ridges of rocks smoothed by erosion, the shapes of the moraine hills, and lastly, the lakes.
A surprising walk in a nature almost untouched, just a stone's throw from the urban center and the industrial area, where the role of the Park Authority has once again been essential in limiting cementation.
