Objectives

  • To know the geomorphology of the territory and its transformations over time up to the formation of lakes.
  • To promote knowledge and respect for biodiversity and the importance of freshwater ecosystems.
  • To raise students' awareness of the importance of conserving plant and animal species that live in a lake by observing the differences between non-native and native species, with particular reference to fish.

The LIFE Predator Project works to counter the spread of the catfish, an allochthonous and invasive species.

As part of the Project, some funds from the European Community have been allocated to raise awareness among adults and youths about the impact of species introduced by humans on natural environments.

The lakes and their environments
What are lakes, why do they form, and how?
What ecosystems can be found there?

Methodology

Two hours of classroom lessons.
Field trip to Lake Piccolo di Avigliana to discover the differences in aquatic ecosystems
with a walk in the woods.
Keywords: observation and curiosity.

Recommended period

It is possible to carry out the activity in all seasons.

Duration

Meeting in class for 2 consecutive hours
Field trip for the entire day

Trasporti

The Laghi di Avigliana Natural Park can be reached by train and/or bus.
For those arriving by train, there is a public bus service from the railway station (for the schedules click here)
Cost borne by the school

Recommended equipment

  • Long pants
  • Mountain boots or shoes with non-smooth, waterproof soles (due to the possible presence of mud along the path).
  • Backpack with packed lunch and water bottle
  • Tick and mosquito repellent
  • K-way

The activities are free until all spots are filled.
