Monitoring of Emys orbicularis - Guido Teppa
The LIFE Predator Project works to combat the spread of the Wels catfish, an alien and invasive species.
As part of the Project, some of the European Community funds have been allocated to raise awareness among adults and young people regarding the impact of species introduced by humans on natural environments.
The threats to biodiversity
Starting from a discussion on the meaning of biodiversity, we will arrive at what can be defined as its main threats, among which, often by voluntary choice on the part of humans, is the spread of alien species.
Two hours of classroom lessons.
Excursion to Lake Piccolo di Avigliana to discover the environment in which the catfish has settled.
A easy walk along the shores of Lake Piccolo will allow us to grasp the main features of this particular habitat.
We will talk about the animals that inhabit it and the threats they face, and then move on to an educational/game activity focused on biodiversity. A game that will help us understand how even the catfish affects the
fish populations and the surrounding environment.
It is possible to carry out the activity in all seasons.
Class meeting of 2 consecutive hours
Field trip for the entire day
The Avigliana Lakes Natural Park is accessible by train and/or bus.
For those arriving by train, there is a public bus service from the train station (for schedules click here)
Cost covered by the school
The activities are free until places are exhausted.
