Objectives

  • Promote learning through direct experience in a natural environment
  • Enhance knowledge of the geological processes that regulate the Earth's crust through storytelling
  • Learn to distinguish the types and macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the main minerals in the rocks of the high valley
  • Learn to use and become familiar with the microscope, its magnifications, and suitable samples for research

A small rock, formed thousands of years ago on the bottom of an ancient ocean, will tell us about its adventurous journey from the coral reef to the top of a mountain and then down to the plains and the sea.

Description

Geology is a fascinating science that can also be told to the youngest.

Just descend on the riverbanks, collect the pebbles smoothed by water, discover their origin and the transformations they have undergone during their very long life to create a beautiful story.

Methodology

The visit to the mineral exhibition at the Gran Bosco Park, an educational center of the Geopark of the Cottian Alps, will allow a first multisensory approach to learning how to distinguish minerals and rocks through direct observation, touch, and why not, even taste and smell!

A laboratory at the documentation center of the Gran Bosco Park will allow us to observe minerals and rocks more closely (under a microscope).

A walk in the woods and along the streambed will stimulate the curiosity of the children and provide numerous opportunities for recreational activities and to bring our story to an end...
