Within the territories of the Parks of the Cozie Alps, motorized vehicle traffic is – of course – prohibited off-road, meaning outside of ordinary roadways, but also on certain municipal and provincial roads.
Motorized vehicle traffic is prohibited on certain routes within the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Natural Park, on all roads in the Val Troncea Natural Park, on some routes in the Orsiera Rocciavré Natural Park, and on the stretch of Via Monte Pirchiriano within the Avigliana Lakes Natural Park.
In protected areas, motor vehicles primarily disturb wildlife with the noise produced by the vehicles and can cause accidents. It is indeed common for slower animals – from hedgehogs to mollusks to all those micro and macro insects – to be crushed while crossing a road, even if cars are moving at low speeds. The disturbance caused by motorized vehicles also affects visitors, hikers, or cyclists, who wish to explore the Parks in a gentle manner, with the calmness and tranquility necessary to fully enjoy the ecological and landscape heritage that surrounds them, without having to worry about the arrival of cars or motorcycles.
Gentle and quiet visitation that a Park Authority prioritizes.
The needs of individuals are nevertheless respected within protected areas, which, by statute, are required to promote coexistence between humans and the natural environment and conscious enjoyment.
Permits for operating motorized vehicles on the roads within the Parks may be granted, but under certain conditions and for specific reasons. They are issued to people with disabilities who have the appropriate permit, to property and land owners, to those engaged in economic activities (agro-silvo-pastoral, shelter management, etc.), or for research or scientific study solely along the routes necessary to reach the location requested. Not to mention emergency, surveillance, and fire-fighting vehicles.
In each Natural Park managed by the Authority, a specific set of regulations for motorized vehicle traffic applies, along with the related forms.
