The section Parcopedia of the Parks of the Cottian Alps website has recently been updated and enriched with content. In recent weeks, the informational heritage dedicated to fauna, flora, and habitats present in the Protected Areas has been significantly expanded, with particular attention to the most valuable species and those most threatened. It is a way to enhance the ecological heritage present in the parks, “samples of biodiversity,” as the agency's slogan states.

The new texts have been prepared by the staff of the Parks of the Cottian Alps, with the scientific support of park rangers and the experts from the Biodiversity Area, who operate in the field every day for the protection and monitoring of animal and plant populations. Direct field experience, daily observation of the natural heritage has allowed for the creation of updated, scientifically accurate fact sheets, rich in insights and curiosities, designed to be read and understood by the widest possible audience: citizens, students, teachers, and nature enthusiasts.

Parcopedia now offers an increasingly in-depth view of the biological and environmental richness of the protected territory, but it remains incomplete considering the countless species present in over 35,000 hectares of parks and sites in the Natura 2000 Network. Each fact sheet tells a part of the complex natural mosaic of the Cottian Alps: from high-altitude environments to valley forests. The descriptions of animal and plant species, accompanied by curiosities, ecological notes, and references to local distribution, help to understand the value of biodiversity and the importance of its conservation. All fact sheets can be easily consulted thanks to the search engine that allows users to identify topics through keywords, categories, and tags.

The goal of this update is to promote direct knowledge of the natural heritage and raise awareness about ecosystem protection. Parcopedia represents a useful tool for those working in the field of communication and environmental education, providing clear and reliable materials to support teaching activities and guided tours.

The section is continually evolving: new fact sheets and insights will be published periodically, as the knowledge of the territory grows alongside those who observe, study, and protect it. Parcopedia is the digital space where this knowledge is collected, updated, and shared, to narrate – step by step – the extraordinary life of the Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps.
