Follow the ibex

Ultimo aggiornamento: July 10, 2024

The Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps, from April 2017 to September 2020, participated in the Alcotra Lemed-Ibex project for monitoring and managing the Alpine Ibex from Lake Geneva (Léman) to the Mediterranean Sea.

During the project development, the organization managed a capture program using tele-sedation on ibexes, which included marking and fitting GPS collars.

Between summer 2018 and spring 2019, a team of park rangers, supported by a veterinarian, captured 16 animals within the Parks of the Cottian Alps and in the community sites under its jurisdiction, and continuously monitored them, also using satellite technology from the radio collars.

In this interactive map, you can track all the movements of the ibexes detected thanks to the GPS collars.

You can refine your observations by narrowing or expanding the period of interest and choosing to display more or fewer animals on the map (marked by color). A virtual tour helps you navigate the map: activate it on the map's "How does it work?" title.
