1945-2025: eighty years ago the Second World War ended in Salbertrand too

At the end of April 1945, the Second World War came to an end in Europe, leaving Italy destroyed, defeated, and territorially diminished.

The war also brought changes, mourning, and sorrow to nearly every family in Salbertrand.

Today, as the risk of conflict in Europe is very real, after eighty years of relative peace and prosperity, the Ecomuseum Colombano Romean, thanks to the collaboration and valuable work of Marco and Massimo Garavelli, felt it necessary to remember those sad but historic events with the intention and hope of doing everything possible to ensure they do not happen again.

The installation at the Hotel Dieu showcase contains photographs and documents reproduced for the occasion, the originals of which come from the private collection of Marco and Massimo Garavelli, unless otherwise indicated, as well as the materials, objects, and equipment from those years on display.

All the paper documentation exclusively concerns the territory or the Salbertrand community and aims to provide a complete chronological overview from the period before the conflict to the liberation and the very early post-war.

The setting, which does not aim to be a mere collecting exercise, intends to reproduce a moment of military life and is set up with material from Salbertrand or the surrounding area.

Last but not least, the spirit of the initiative by the Ecomuseum and the authors is to remember the sacrifice of all those who did not return to their country and their families from that unfortunate adventure.
