Snow hike to the Selleries refuge - Arch. Parchi Alpi Cozie
On the occasion of the Christmas holidays and winter Sundays, the Metropolitan City of Turin has allocated a contribution in favor of the Val Chisone and Germanasca Mountain Union for the management of a free shuttle service between Fenestrelle and Pra Catinat. This is an extraordinary intervention activated to solve the problem of parking shortages in the area where Provincial Road No. 173 is closed to traffic in winter and where several very popular hiking trails start even in the cold season.
“We will provide a financial contribution to the Mountain Union to cover the cost of the shuttle aimed at tourists who will no longer drive their private cars up to Pra Catinat or the Selleries Refuge. The area is part of the Alpi Cozie Park, which must be protected from an environmental point of view and promoted from a tourism perspective – commented the Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Turin, Jacopo Suppo – and we must also prevent road safety issues caused by those who park carelessly on the roadside. We are starting this trial and will evaluate the results.”
Suppo met with Danilo Breusa, president of the Mountain Union, and Michel Bouquet, mayor of Fenestrelle, agreeing to activate the service on the days between December 28 and 31, 2024, and on Sundays in January and February 2025. The shuttle will depart at 9:45 AM from Piazza della Fiera in Fenestrelle, while the return trip is scheduled for 3:45 PM from Pra Catinat. It is possible to book a ride via message at +39 347 5895250.
For those arriving at the former sanatoria by their own vehicle, the Protected Areas of the Alpi Cozie have published the article “Parking at Pra Catinat: Instructions for Use” with some tips for parking without obstructing traffic and avoiding fines.
