Even during the summer of 2024, the Protected Areas of the Cozie Alps collaborated with the Municipality of Avigliana and the Orso Cooperative in organizing CampingJo, a summer camp aimed at young people aged 14 to 17 interested in getting to know their municipality's territory better and actively engaging in civic volunteering. A total of 14 young people joined the proposal developed by the Park Authority and the official Guide of the Cozie Alps Parks, Elena Bianco Chinto, during the weeks of July 8-12 and July 22-26.
Activities were tailored to learn more about the ecosystems of the lakes and to respect and protect these precious and delicate environments at the same time. At the beginning of the week, the young people delved into the geological origin of the lakes and the plant and animal species living in the Avigliana Natural Lakes Park. From the trees in the woods and their beneficial effects on human well-being, to the wetland amphibians, migratory and resident birdlife, and the alien and invasive species that can easily be observed during an excursion along the freshwater basins. However, ample space was dedicated to practical activities for understanding and defending nature. Firstly, with an experimental laboratory aimed at assessing water quality through the collection, analysis, and cataloging of macroinvertebrates collected in the lakes and in the watercourses feeding them. Additionally, the young people engaged in waste recovery in the Baia Grande area, one of the most visited within the protected area, which, despite its well-kept and clean appearance, revealed a truly unthinkable amount of hidden and scattered garbage in the area. Finally, the last day was dedicated to learning about the wolf and obtaining the recognition of Young Park Ranger, which was awarded to the young participants.
