Toponymic Research Project

Ultimo aggiornamento: March 28, 2024

The project aims to collaborate with the University to carry out investigations on traditional toponymy in the territories of the various municipalities that are part of the Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps.
It arose from an idea of the late prof. Arturo Genre who, together with the Piedmont Region, started the Toponymic Atlas research project in 1982 which extends to the entire territory of the municipalities forming part of the Mountain Communities of Piedmont.

In particular, at the time, the collaboration of the Piedmontese Parks was requested and they committed themselves through their employees to carrying out the research in the territories of the municipalities involved.
In our institution this has allowed us to carry out various research, some of which have also had the honor of being published in volumes with toponymic maps attached.

The volumes of the following Municipalities have currently been published:

  • n. 5 Chianocco 1995 Researchers Graziano Borello (borello@alpicozie.eu), Paola Tirone;
  • n. 17 Avigliana 2001 Researchers Tiziana Salotti, Giovanni Falco;
