Natural parks

Ultimo aggiornamento: April 18, 2024

There are four Parks of the Cottian Alps, established in 1980,  which cover a vast area of over 18,000 hectares (nearly 70 square miles), rising from the valley floor to Punta Rognosa at 3,280m in the Val Troncea Park, Sestriere.
They are a water park, Avigliana Lakes Natural Park, and three natural mountain parks -  Val Troncea, Orsiera Rocciavré and Gran Bosco di Salbertrand.

The natural park at Avigliana Lakes mainly focuses its work upon the protection of the wetland area of Mareschi, restoring the finely balanced freshwater ecosystems of the lakes, eliminating pollution, raising appreciation of the area and recognising its close links with the town of Avigliana.

The natural parks of Val Troncea, Orsiera Rocciavré and Gran Bosco di Salbertrand conserve typical Alpine environments, protecting not only nature but also their local history. This region has been shaped by major constructions such as military routes which are brought to the public eye through a wealth of historical and cultural locations including ancient battle sites, mines and glaciers, all steeped in centuries of human history.
