The 4 natural parks of the Institution insist on 18 Municipalities, distributed along three Alpine valleys: Valle di Susa, Val Chisone and Val Sangone inside the territory of the Metropolitan City of Turin. In these valleys three historic linguistic minorities are recognised and protected: the Occitan, the Franco-Provençal and the French.
The municipality is located in a morainic amphitheatre between the Monte Pirchiriano, on which the Sacra di San Michele stands, and the hill of Rivoli, in the final part of the Susa Valley, towards the plain in a multiple and complex territory known as the morainic amphitheater of Rivoli-Avigliana. It is the most populated and economically important municipality in the entire Susa Valley.

Located at the point where the Valle di Susa divides into the Bardonecchia and Cesana valleys, it has been an important crossroads since ancient times, a meeting place for people and a center of exchange with passing cultures.
The protected area is located at the western end of the Park. The Sentiero dei Franchi starts from here and winds along the hydrographic right of the valley, halfway up the hill, until it reaches the Sacra di San Michele. It is the headquarters of the Unione Montana Alta Valle Susa.

It is surrounded by high peaks that create two valley valleys: the famous Val Troncea, crossed by the Chisone torrent, and the Chisonetto Valley, which flow into the Traverses hamlet in an alluvial plain. Called the "balcony of the Alps", it is a renowned location for practicing many winter sports. It represents one of the main entrance gates to the Park: from the Borgata Monfol you reach the equipped area of Ser Blanc and from here, along a dirt road you cross the entire Gran Bosco basin, to reach the Seu area. It is the most classic of the walks within the protected area and leads to the "Daniele Arlaud" refuge, owned by the organisation, the first European alpine refuge to have received Ecolabel certification, an important point of reference for hikers and simple lovers of tranquility walks and good food.

It is a municipality of 6,466 inhabitants in the Città Metropolitana di Torino. Strategic place from a road point of view in this Alpine sector, being at the crossroads between the itineraries, also exploited by the Via Francigena of Moncenisio (via Val Cenischia) and Colle Clapier (via Val Clarea) both in the direction of Northern France , of the Monginevro through the Alta Valle Susa, towards Southern France and Spain, and the Colle di Fenestrelle towards the bordering Val Chisone.
