Entrust the management 2024-2029 of "Jack Canali" Shelter

By determination no. 91 of 24/04/2024, the Management Authority of the Protected Areas of the Cozie Alps entrusted the management of the alpine refuge Casa Assietta, dedicated to Jack Canali, to the temporary grouping of companies (ATI) composed of ONALP by Plano Roberto, based in Susa (TO) and IL CASTAGNETO DI PIAN DEL CONTE by Sorba Laura, based in Villar Focchiardo (TO).

The contract has a duration of six years (possibly extendable) and will cover the summer opening seasons for the years from 2024 to 2029, starting from 01.06.2024 to 15.10.2029 and provides for the payment of an annual fee which was set at € 6,300.00 plus VAT during the bidding phase.

The structure, former Assietta roadhouse built in 1890 by the Military Engineering, owned by the Metropolitan City of Turin, leased to the Park Authority, is located in the municipality of Pragelato, at an altitude of 2,527 meters, on the watershed between the Susa Valley and the Chisone Valley, along the Assietta road in the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Natural Park.

The refuge, inaugurated in 2012, offers 18 beds for hikers and a catering service focusing on local products. It is dedicated to the memory of the Lombard mountaineer Jack Canali, known for numerous climbs on the most challenging peaks in Europe and for participating in the expedition led by Riccardo Cassin, which in 1961 made the first ascent of the south face of Mount McKinley in Alaska. Canali lost his life on January 26, 1972, a few meters from Colle dell'Assietta, buried by an avalanche during a ski mountaineering crossing from Sauze d'Oulx to Sestriere, while leading 17 students from his ski school.
